Welcome Change to Board Candidate Process
The June 8 Board of Directors application deadline is rapidly approaching. Maybe you’ve been considering running for a board position, but the thought of having to answer impromptu questions in front of members at the Forum is just too stressful. Sound familiar?
Well, new this year, the candidates running for a 2016 board position will no longer have to appear on stage at the first business meeting to answer member questions. Instead, candidates at the 2015 Education Forum will take part in a more relaxed “Board Candidate Roundtable” on Friday morning, November 13.
“The process of board candidate engagement with Forum attendees in the past was quite intimidating and anxiety-provoking for me,” said current Director at Large Carl Garrubba. “So much so that I felt my answers to questions were not as well articulated as they could have been.”
The newly developed session will have candidates seated at small tables along with other PAEA leadership and staff who will facilitate questions from members and Forum attendees. This intimate setting will allow members to talk with the potential future board members to gain a better understanding of their leadership qualities and contributions to PA education.
Garrubba expressed his support for the revised format. “This new opportunity for small group discussion with Forum attendees by the candidates affords a more collegial and enjoyable experience that is more likely to capture true passion for and knowledge of PAEA and leadership potential.”
