STFM Seeks PA Educators for Interprofessional Clinical Education Teams
The Society for Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) is seeking health professionals, including PAs, to serve as leaders and members of teams that are being established to work on five important areas of clinical education. Each team will work on one of five “action areas” that were developed at a special STFM summit meeting last year. These are:
- Work with CMS to revise student documentation guidelines.
- Integrate interprofessional/interdisciplinary education into clinical clerkships and integrate students into the work of ambulatory primary care settings in useful and authentic ways.
- Develop a standardized onboarding process for students.
- Develop educational collaboratives across departments, specialties, and institutions to improve administrative efficiencies.
- Promote productivity incentive plans that include teaching; develop metrics to define and support high-quality teaching practices; develop a culture of teaching in clinical settings; and incentivize teaching through Continuing Certification.
STFM and PAEA have a long history of collaboration, and PA education was well represented at the STFM summit. Our two organizations are committed to pursuing an interprofessional, multi-organization effort to solve the problem of clinical site access. This is a wonderful opportunity for PA educators to be involved in an important part of the initiative.
For more information and to apply, visit the STFM website by January 20. Potential applicants may also contact Olivia Ziegler, PAEA’s chief assessment officer, to discuss this opportunity in more detail.
