Protected Research Time — Too Good to Be True?
PAEA and AAPA have teamed up to show their renewed commitment to PA research with the inauguration of the PAEA-AAPA Research Fellowship. This program will support three fellows for one-year terms with the first cohort starting on November 1, 2017. Applications are now being accepted.
The program will provide up to $25,000 per year per fellow directly to each fellow’s institution to secure protected time for research into critical PA education and practice questions. With their release time, fellows will be able to complete a research project under the guidance of both local institutional mentors and nationally recognized PAEA and AAPA mentors.
Each selected fellow will receive a travel stipend to attend the kick-off meeting in October at the 2017 PAEA Education Forum in Denver, an interim meeting in May at AAPA 2018 in New Orleans, and a meeting to pass the baton to the new class of fellows at the 2018 Education Forum. The core of the fellowship curriculum will be delivered during two week-long visits to the DC area — one in January and one in July.
This program highlights the substantial investment that both PAEA and AAPA are making to strengthen the research skills and productivity of qualified PA doctoral faculty and to speed growth of the next generation of PA researchers.
