PAEA Volunteer Opportunities: CASPA Advisory Steering Committee

The Association is seeking a diverse group of volunteers to join the newly created CASPA (Centralized Application Service for Physician Assistants) Advisory Steering Committee. Available opportunities include one chair and several member positions, with applications for either position due by August 3, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Responsibilities and Expectations

The CASPA Advisory Steering Committee will help ensure that the CASPA application meets the needs of PA programs and applicants. Members of this committee will serve as the voice of the PA admissions community, act as an admissions resource for PA programs, and provide suggestions for the maintenance and enhancement of CASPA and the corresponding policies for both applicants and PA programs. This includes:

  • Collaborating with PAEA and Liaison International to prioritize system enhancements
  • Participating in annual User Acceptance Testing
  • Reviewing existing applicant and CASPA-participating program policies and providing suggestions for revisions
  • Helping with the facilitation and promotion of virtual fairs
  • Assisting with the creation of educational materials for both PA programs and pre-PA applicants

Committee Member Application Information

Selected members will serve a two-year term from October 1, 2020, until September 30, 2022, with the option for reappointment for a second two-year term. This role is ideal for faculty at any stage of their career who have admissions experience. Members with limited PAEA volunteer experience are encouraged to apply.

Applicants must demonstrate familiarity with PA admissions or admissions within the health professions. All applicants must submit a blinded CV that reflects the ability to understand graduate medical education admissions as well as a blinded interest statement. Failure to provide blinded information will result in an invalid application.

Experience and Qualifications

  • At least two years of recruitment and/or admissions experience is required
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of the WebAdMIT platform or various Student Information Systems (SIS)

  • Applicants will be notified of decisions by August 25.
  • The member position term will begin on October 1, 2020, and end on September 30, 2022.
  • The committee is supported for travel, lodging, and meals at any required in-person meetings.

Committee Chair Application Information

The Association is also seeking a chair to lead this group of volunteers in their efforts to provide oversight and recommendations for enhancements to CASPA, as well as help prioritize projects associated with streamlining PAEA polices regarding CASPA and the creation of recourses for both applicants and PAEA members. The chair will take on the additional role of creating meeting agendas and may be called upon to periodically host webinars for PAEA member or provide updates to the Board of Directors. The CASPA Advisory Steering Committee Chair would serve for a three-year term, from October 1, 2020, through September 30, 2023, with the option for reappointment for a second two-year term. This role is ideal for faculty at any stage of their career who have admissions experience and understand the nuances of recruitment in graduate medical education.

Applicants must demonstrate familiarity with PA admissions or admissions within the health professions. All applicants must submit a blinded CV that reflects the ability to understand graduate medical education admissions as well as a blinded interest statement. Experience and Qualifications

  • At least five years of recruitment and admissions experience is required
  • Advanced understanding of the WebAdMIT platform or various Student Information Systems (SIS)
  • At least two years’ experience using, and intermediate knowledge of, a customer relationship management (CRM) tool
  • Strong leadership skills, communication (written and verbal) skills, and mentorship experience
  • Confidence with public speaking
