PAEA Data in Healthy People 2020 Report

Healthy People 2020 has released its mid-term data report, and data from PAEA’s Curriculum Survey was included in the findings.

In its Education and Community-Based Programs section, the report states that “between 2010 and 2014, the proportion of physician assistant programs that included course content in environmental health increased (from 53% in 2010 to 63% in 2014), as did the proportion with course content in global health (from 49% to 63%), exceeding their respective 2020 targets.”

It also shows that the proportion of PA programs having course content in public health systems increased from 89% in 2010 to 91% in 2014, making significant strides toward the 2020 target.

Other good news includes the rising number of people with medical insurance over the past year. Some not-so-good news is that the number of children, adolescents, and adults visiting dentists dropped.

The Healthy People 2020 Midcourse Review shows the progress that the country has made so far toward reaching the Healthy People goals and objectives. They have created interactive infographics illustrating the status of measurable Healthy People objectives to help us see what work still needs to be done by 2020.

If you are planning to submit a HRSA training grant in the next year or two, this is important information worth keeping in mind.
