Just Write for JPAE — Open Volunteer Positions

Are you interested in research and scholarly publications? Do you regularly read the Journal of Physician Assistant Education (JPAE) and think about getting involved?

We’re looking for experienced and innovative researchers/writers to contribute to the increasing quality and reach of JPAE, PAEA’s peer-reviewed, MEDLINE-indexed journal. And the deadline to apply for volunteer positions has been extended to Monday, October 30.

Two open seats are available on the Editorial Advisory Board. Successful applicants will have a strong publishing record, including in JPAE, and a history of achievement in scholarly work.

The role of the journal’s editorial board is to advise and serve as a sounding board for the editor in chief and journal staff on the direction of the journal. The editorial board provides input on a variety of issues related to the journal, including content, layout, and distribution. The board meets in-person twice a year and communicates the rest of the year via conference calls and email as needed.

Terms and Funding

Terms run for three years, beginning January 1, 2018, with the possibility of one 3-year term reappointment. Board members are supported for one annual in-person meeting in Washington, DC. They also are expected to attend, if possible, the editorial board meeting at the Education Forum each fall; however, funding for this meeting is not provided.

There are also two open positions for feature editors: one for the Cultural Perspectives feature and one for the Global Perspectives feature.

JPAE feature editors are responsible for contributing two articles per year, either written by the feature editor or by another author, relevant to their subject area. If the article is written by another author, the feature editor is expected to work with that author to ensure that the article is of interest to members, well-written, and ready for publication with minimal editing necessary.

Candidates should have a demonstrated, established publication record, including publication in JPAE, and be willing to work with the editor in chief and editorial staff to uphold the high standards and practices of the journal. They also should be prepared to devote the necessary time to either writing or arranging for quality, relevant feature articles to be submitted by the deadline for publication in the journal.

Terms and Funding

Terms for feature editors run for two years, beginning January 1, 2018, with the possibility of one 2-year term reappointment. While feature editors are not required or funded to attend any in-person meetings, they are encouraged to attend the JPAE Editorial Board meeting held during the Education Forum each year.
