June PAEA Research Office Hours Now Available On-Demand

If you missed our last PAEA Research Office Hours webinar, here is your chance to catch up! The event offered a more informal setting to connect with established researchers and understand what PAEA data and resources are available. During the June webinar, we shared advice and discussed a wide range of research offerings such as reports, data, and grant opportunities with PAEA members. The recording is now posted on the Digital Learning Hub.

Nikki Frias, mixed methods analyst, PAEA Research, started the session with an overview of PAEA surveys, reports, and the processes for requesting data. After the presentation, PAEA’s Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, Monica Miles, PhD, moderated a panel discussion about the Don Pedersen Research Grant, which is currently accepting applications until 11:59 p.m. ET on October 31, 2021. Panelists Trenton Honda, PhD, MMS, PA-C; Elana Min, PhD, MMS, PA-C; and Bettie Coplan, PhD, MPAS, PA-C provided participants with recommendations on how to write a competitive grant application and answered attendees’ questions about data sources, survey administration, and figuring out your research interests. One of the main takeaways was the difficulty of garnering a statistically significant survey response rate. Dr. Honda and Dr. Min recommended that researchers focus on reliable data sources from organizations like PAEA and use them to develop their research questions or identify gaps in the research.

In addition, the recorded webinar has been reviewed by the AAPA Review Panel and is compliant with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for threeAAPA Category 1 CME credits. Approval is valid from 7/26/2021 to 7/26/2022. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation. If you are interested in applying for credits, please complete the webinar evaluation on the Digital Learning Hub.

We hope to continue this flexible model that will give members dedicated face time with PAEA Research staff and promote collaboration and member engagement.

Ultimately, the goal is to support members in their research endeavors. We hope that members walk away with greater research skills and knowledge, including the ability to:

  • Understand PAEA data collection and reports and make connections to their research.
  • Understand the Don Pederson Research Grant
  • Network with other PA researchers.
