Celebrating 50 Years: Lisa Mustone Alexander Past President Snapshot

During my year as president of PAEA in 2018, I had the opportunity to work with fellow Board members and staff to embark on exciting initiatives that strengthened and expanded the Association’s mission. In addition to developing a new strategic plan, we worked together on numerous projects that included:
- Working collaboratively with ARC-PA to develop “standards that include program and institutional accountability for diversity outcomes.” We also worked to move toward outcomes-based accreditation and to develop a model for those outcomes through our work on the Core Competencies for New PA Graduates.
- Launching the new PAEA Digital Learning Hub at the 2018 Education Forum. Our conference theme was “Our Future Starts Now,” which epitomized the new direction we were taking for the future of PAEA.
- Bringing to life our vision of “Health for All” through our medication-assisted treatment, or MAT, initiative. To address full scope of practice for graduate PAs, the MAT project allowed us to collaborate with the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, providing the leadership to help all of our members tackle a major public health crisis facing the country.
Perhaps one of my favorite innovations that we implemented during the Forum was the inclusion of spotlight speakers during my Presidential address. In addition to me providing updates on Board activities, I also asked faculty who embodied strong key attributes consistent with exemplary educational practices to share their insights with our members. It was wonderful to share the stage with such positive role models!
