On Tuesday, October 4, 2022, PAEA held its annual business meeting in a virtual event attended by more than 200 PA programs across the country.

President Kara Caruthers, MSPAS, PA-C, announced the election of Nicole Burwell, PhD, MSHS, PA-C, of Stanford University as 2023 president elect. Jennifer Eames, DHSc, MPAS, PA-C from Hardin-Simmons University and Elizabeth Elliott, MS, PA-C from Baylor College of Medicine were named the new Board of Directors directors at large.

The chairs of the AAPA, ARC-PA, NCCPA, the PA Foundation, the NCCPA Health Foundation, and the PA History Society provided brief reports to the assembly, as did Trenton Honda, PhD, MMS, PA-C, editor in chief of the Journal of PA Education.

In new business, three motions were approved by the membership:

Membership Dues Authorization

Attendees voted to accept an amended resolution that “the PAEA Board of Directors, with input from the Treasurer and the Finance Steering Committee, may raise dues annually by an amount not to exceed 4 percent. Programs will be given a minimum of 12 months’ notice before the higher rate will be in effect.”

New Name for the Association | Bylaws Amendment Article I

The membership approved the Board’s motion to amend Bylaws Article I to adopt a new name for the organization: the PA Education Association.

Authorization to Amend the Association’s Articles of Incorporation

The membership voted to authorize “an amendment to the Association’s Articles of Incorporation consistent with the amendment to Bylaws Article I to adopt the new name of PA Education Association.”

President Caruthers thanked the Board of Directors for providing “critical guidance on the strategic work of the Association” this year and recognized the many years of service and invaluable input of Immediate Past President Michel Statler and Carl Garrubba, director at large, who will be rotating off the Board.

In the traditional ceremonial conclusion, President Caruthers virtually passed the gavel to President Elect Linda Sekhon, DHSc, MMS, PA-C. She thanked the membership for placing their confidence and trust in her and looks forward to serving the organization at the start of another 50 years.
