2016 Program Directors 101: Call for Facilitators – CLOSED

(previously known as the New Program Directors Retreat)

Call for Facilitators

Are you interested in an exciting leadership opportunity that allows you to play a role in helping develop fellow PA program directors around the country? Then we have the perfect opening for you: PAEA is seeking facilitators for the Program Directors 101 workshop (previously known as the New Program Directors Retreat.) This intensive four-day program is designed to meet the needs of new PA program directors (two years of experience or less) and associate directors considering the program director position.

Presenters and facilitators use a variety of instructional techniques — lectures, small group activities, and interactive workshops among them — to help attendees develop skills in academic administration, management, and leadership. Participants will have the opportunity to identify potential mentors and establish valuable peer relationships with other new and developing program directors.

Experience and Qualifications

PAEA strives to provide a balanced and diverse group of facilitators. Program directors with experience with the provisional pathway accreditation process are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be a faculty member at a PAEA member program, an individual colleague, or a member of an institutional colleague. Applicants must be available to attend, train, and facilitate at the 2016 Program Directors 101 workshop, July 28–August 1, in Washington, D.C.

This program requires several facilitators who have experience in the varying program director roles and excellent presentation skills; they also must work well together. Integrity, strong interpersonal skills, and effective communication skills are required as is knowledge of PAEA’s mission, goals, and values.

The current Program Directors 101 project leaders will review the applications; candidates will be rated on their experience and qualifications. In addition, the review team will aim to make the facilitator team diverse and representative of different PA programs, experiences, institutions, and geographical regions.

Final candidates will participate in a phone interview. Newly selected members will be required to sign a speaker agreement that includes a conflict of interest/disclosure form.

Facilitator Expectations

Facilitators are expected to:

  • Develop and/or enhance their session descriptions, objectives, and activities to meet the competencies as identified and assigned by the project leaders.
  • Develop and/or enhance their presentation to include a lecture component balanced with hands-on activities.
  • Participate in conference calls with other facilitators to discuss program development and coordination.
  • Submit materials and resources on deadline as defined by the project leaders.
  • Participate actively and equally in planning and presenting the curriculum.
  • Engage with attendees prior to the retreat as assigned by the project leaders.
  • Serve as a mentor and/or resource for attendees during the retreat and for any necessary follow-up.

Facilitators must be present for the entire workshop unless otherwise arranged with the project leaders. The 2016 Program Directors 101 is scheduled for July 28 – August 1, 2016, in the Washington, D.C., area.

Support

Facilitators receive five nights of hotel accommodations with round-trip airfare/transportation to the workshop location, food and beverages as indicated in the PAEA travel policy, and an honorarium of $200 per day (maximum of $1000 per facilitator).

To Apply

Submit a letter of interest and current CV through the online form by Wednesday, March 30, 12:00 p.m. (ET).

Appointments will be confirmed by April 29, and the new facilitators will take an active role in the development of the 2016 retreat.
