Sundance Premieres Documentary About PA/MD Team
The documentary “Quiet Heroes,” which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival last week, chronicles the heroism of a local PA/MD team during the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. Kristen Ries, MD, an infectious-disease specialist, and Maggie Snyder, MS, PA-C, were the only medical professionals in Utah in the 1980s who were willing to treat patients with AIDS/HIV.
This medical duo rose above the stigma often associated with the disease to provide ostracized and frightened patients with the best care possible — and now, decades later, they are being recognized for their previously overlooked but persistent efforts. Their story was also the subject of a front page article in the Salt Lake City Tribune.
