Student-Generated Spark Sessions at AAPA 2016

At the AAPA Conference, Student PAs Rock (SPARK) sessions offer content tailored to the needs and interests of PA students. SPARK sessions are recognized for their unique focus on student concerns like career searching, how to survive clinical year, or how to pass the PANCE. This year at AAPA’s 2016 Annual Conference in San Antonio, the Student Advisory Task Force will be offering two new sessions with a PA education twist.

  • PA Education: The Career You Never Knew You Wanted and Why It Makes You and Your Profession Better
    When: Saturday, May 14, 2016 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Where: 210AB Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center
  • Hottest Apps in 2016 for Students in the Classroom and Clinic: A Guided Tour
    When: Saturday, May 14, 2016 11 a.m. -12 noon
Where: 210AB Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center

In the PA Education session, a panel will offer guidance from their unique perspectives serving in various roles as PA educators. Panel speakers will address topics like:

  • greatest challenges facing PA faculty
  • necessary experience for being a preceptor
  • the value of academic fellowships or additional training
  • how PA educators enrich the profession.

The panel also identifies opportunities for students and recent graduates to immediately engage in PA education.

The Hottest Apps session is designed as a “guided tour” of medical education apps. To start the tour, attendees will receive a brief overview of medical education apps, their function in didactic or clinical phases, and guidelines for identifying apps that are efficient, timely, and cost effective. Attendees then will be introduced to a variety of apps including:

  • classroom aides
  • study aides
  • medical encyclopedias
  • calculators
  • apps for screening recommendations

Be sure to let your students know about these!
