New Report Highlights AAPI PA Student Data
The month of May signifies the beginning or renewal of numerous special happenings — warm weather, graduations, Mother’s Day, to name a few. But more importantly, May has also been designated as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, marking a specific time of year to recognize and celebrate the cultures and heritage of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AAPI) people.
That is why we thought it would be the perfect time to highlight AAPI students. Using data from the 2017 Matriculating Student Survey, we have published a brief report, Asian American & Pacific Islander Students: A Snapshot of the 2017 Matriculating Student Class.
This report brings attention to the various similarities and differences amongst first-year PA matriculants to gain a better understanding of how diversity, race, and ethnicity may factor into PA students’ decisions to enroll in particular PA programs.
Other focal points of this brief report include:
- Geographic concentration of race and ethnicity
- Pre-PA educational loan status
- Desirability of future practice environments
- Factors in the decision of which PA program to attend
