New Federal Funding Opportunities Available from HRSA and SAMHSA
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) have recently announced new funding opportunities focusing on loan repayment and substance use disorder curricula.
HRSA’s Faculty Loan Repayment Program is intended to address faculty shortages in health professions education, including at PA programs. Eligible applicants must be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident and be from an economically or environmentally disadvantaged background. Recipients are eligible for up to $40,000 in loan repayment for a two-year service commitment. Applications are due by June 27, and HRSA will be conducting a technical assistance webinar on June 6 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. ET. Read here for additional information.
In addition to the Faculty Loan Repayment Program, SAMHSA has also released a funding opportunity announcement for its Expansion of Practitioner Education grant program. This program is intended to expand the integration of substance use disorder treatment into program curricula and may represent a partnership opportunity for PA programs with other applicant organizations. SAMHSA anticipates making up to 10 awards for a two-year project period with up to $250,000 awarded to each grantee. Applications are due by August 2. Read here for more information.
