New End of Rotation Exam Versions Available July 27

PAEA is pleased to announce that we will release the new End of RotationTM Exam versions on July 27, 2026. The new exams being published include:

  • Emergency Medicine
  • Family Medicine
  • Gynecologic, Sexual, and Reproductive Health (formerly Women’s Health)
  • Internal Medicine
  • Pediatrics
  • Psychiatric & Behavioral Health

These End of Rotation exams will reflect the new blueprints and content areas, aligning with changes that began with the Surgery End of Rotation and End of Curriculum exams. Updated exam statistics are currently being finalized and will be available on the Exam Statistics page and Program Performance Reports upon release.

PAEA will not be creating new conversion tables for these exams. Instead, we encourage programs to set benchmarks based on exam statistics and utilize GradEOR if your institution requires two-digit scores for gradebooks.

As with the Surgery End of Rotation exam, there will be a transition period during which both the current and new exam versions will be available. The current End of Rotation exams will remain available through July 2027, allowing programs to transition smoothly to the new versions when their next cohort begins the clinical phase. If you would like for your students to take the versions aligned with the new blueprints, please wait to schedule their exams until July 27.

When scheduling, programs will first select “End of Rotation – Legacy” for the current blueprint or “End of Rotation” for the updated blueprint, then select the appropriate subject exam. The Surgery End of Rotation exam will be listed in the End of Rotation dropdown alongside the other updated exams.

Blueprint updates include the addition of the Professional Practice task area for all exams. Other areas renamed, removed, or realigned in accordance with current educational standards as determined by PA educator subject matter experts. Updated documentation and crosswalks outlining all changes are available on the Blueprints & Topic Lists page. All scored items have been pretested and placed on the same scoring scale, and students taking current forms have already seen them as unscored items.

Programs should communicate with students about which exams they will be taking, whether they will continue with the Legacy blueprints or transition to the new blueprints after July 27. PAEA recommends that all members of a cohort test on the same blueprint for consistency in standards, but the decision to transition is at the discretion of programs.
