Passing the Baton at OHSU

Ted Ruback, MS, PA-C, is stepping down as program director of the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) PA Program after founding and leading the program for the past 22 years. Associate Professor Glenn Forister, PhD, PA-C, has been named the new program director and division head of the PA program at OHSU, a free-standing division in the School of Medicine. A long-time PA educator, Forister was previously program director at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He served PAEA as a member of the Research Institute, now known as the Research Council. Ruback will be taking on a new role as OHSU’s Vice Provost for Health Professions.

Inaugural Award Winner at FIU

Florida International University’s Steve Cohen, MD, PA-C, has received one of 10 inaugural Healthcare Educator Awards from Figure 1. To recognize excellence in medical education, Figure 1 invited students to nominate professors for their first-ever Healthcare Educators Award. Hundreds of nominations were submitted from 116 institutions across 33 countries, including schools such as the University of California—San Diego, University College London, Royal College of Surgeons (in Ireland), McMaster University (in Canada), and University of New South Wales (in Australia). The Figure 1 team selected 10 winners based on both quality as well as volume of nominations. With several nominations from PA students, Dr. Cohen has made a clear impact at Florida International University.
