Meeting the Moment in PA Education
An introductory message from new
PAEA President Michael Roscoe, PhD, PA-C
I’m honored to serve as president of the PA Education Association, and I do so as a program director who understands the day-to-day realities programs face. It has been some time since a program director held this role, and I welcome the opportunity to bring that perspective forward.
PA education is navigating a period of real change. Programs are balancing limited resources, evolving policy, and growing expectations, while remaining deeply committed to their students and educational quality. PAEA is here to work for you and with you, helping programs meet these demands with shared support, practical resources, and a clear sense of direction.
In moments like these, community matters. PAEA brings members together so challenges are met collectively, not in isolation. I encourage you to engage in the ways that make sense for you, whether that’s attending events, volunteering, or staying connected to the broader community.
The Board’s focus this year is on sharpening PAEA’s ability to make a clear, practical impact for programs. That means addressing the pressures programs are navigating right now, while also leading on issues that will shape the profession’s future.
That focus is grounded in work completed last year. Through an updated strategic framework, PAEA clarified its direction and priorities. This year, that clarity is guiding how we concentrate our efforts and where we choose to lead.
We will continue to emphasize state and federal advocacy and accreditation support, two areas that significantly affect programs. In both, PAEA is committed to being a strong and effective partner.
At the same time, PAEA is leading work that looks beyond immediate challenges. We will share the Doctoral Education Commission’s findings as part of a broader examination of the entry-level degree and its implications for PA education and the profession.
My background in emergency medicine, program leadership, and military service has shaped how I approach moments like this. When conditions become more complex, clarity, coordination, and trust become even more important.
PAEA is here to support, connect, and help you move forward. Stay engaged, lean on one another, and join our collective efforts. That is how we continue to make progress and strengthen PA education together.
I look forward to working with you. Please email me at president@PAEAonline.org with any questions or requests for help. I’m here to help you and your program succeed.
