Apply for Indian Health Service Loan Repayment Program
The Indian Health Service (IHS) is now accepting applications for its loan repayment program (LRP) for the fiscal year 2021 application cycle. The IHS LRP awards up to $40,000 in loan repayment assistance to clinicians in exchange for two years of full-time service at Indian health facilities. Subsequent one-year service extensions are possible depending upon the availability of continued funding. Health professions students, including PA students, are eligible to apply in the final year of their education prior to obtaining a license to practice, but they must provide proof of licensure to receive an award under the program. American Indian, Alaska Native, or IHS Scholarship Program participants will receive priority consideration for an LRP award.
Applications for the IHS LRP will be reviewed monthly beginning February 15, 2021, with selected candidates required to begin their service period no later than September 30, 2021. More information about the loan repayment program can be found on the IHS website. Members and students with questions about the program are invited to contact Tyler Smith at tsmith@PAEAonline.org.
