S. 3095 – The Building a Health Care Workforce for the Future Act
Summary: On July 11, 2018, PAEA submitted a letter to the offices of Senators Jack Reed and Roy Blunt thanking them for introducing S. 3095 and outlining provisions of the bill that would enhance the capability of PA programs to produce highly-skilled graduates who are ready to meet the growing demand for health care services nationwide. Such provisions include:
- New funding opportunities for health professions education with an emphasis on supporting primary care students
- The authorization of grants for the development of certain competencies that are frequently prioritized among PA programs
- A proposed study that examines current clinical documentation requirements, which have indirectly limited PA student access to clinical training sites
- PAEA also offered recommendations to strengthen certain provisions and improve the clarity of the bill’s language for the benefit of PA programs.
