Oregon Medical Board Proposed Preceptor Regulation
Summary: On March 5, 2018, PAEA submitted a letter to the Oregon Medical Board (OMB), echoing the opposition of the Oregon Society of PAs to the OMB’s proposed rule change that would have required PA student training to be monitored by a Board-approved supervising physician.
Under this rule change, physicians wishing to become preceptors would have had to submit an application fee and complete a written exam to secure the proper Board approval. If this change had been formally adopted, the Board approval process would have deterred qualified physicians from precepting, further limiting clinical training opportunities by imposing an additional administrative burden.
