Higher Education Act (HEA) Reauthorization Priorities

Summary: In light of the continued reauthorization process of the HEA, PAEA submitted a letter to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions on March 21, 2018. The letter offered a set of policy recommendations to expand the portfolio of financial aid resources available to PA students, including:

• Adopting provisions of the PROSPER Act, which would increase student loan limits and enable PA students to borrow at higher limits
• Sustaining the Grad PLUS loan option and Public Service Loan Forgiveness
• Creating new reauthorization language that would promote greater diversity in PA education and provide an incentive for PA students to work with medically underserved populations following graduation
