Dr. Bondy will be the first PA and PA educator to serve as PAEA’s chief executive officer.

Mary Jo Bondy, DHEd, MHS, PA-C, has been selected as the Association’s new CEO by the PAEA Board of Directors, following a rigorous, months-long search process that saw an initial pool of more than 90 applicants winnowed down to one.

“The PAEA Board is thrilled to announce Dr. Bondy’s hiring,” said PAEA President Jon Bowser, MS, PA-C. “Her combination of broad experience, clear vision, and organizational leadership skills makes her the right person to lead PAEA at this pivotal point in our development.”

Bondy will be the first PA to serve as PAEA’s CEO. She brings deep experience in PA education, most recently at the University of Maryland Baltimore, where she was assistant dean for graduate academic programs and served as executive director of the Physician Assistant Leadership and Learning Academy. She served as director of the PA program at Anne Arundel Community College for 11 years, including four years of a collaborative program between AACC and the University of Maryland Baltimore.

Before entering PA education, she practiced clinically in orthopedic surgery, emergency medicine, family medicine, and internal medicine for several years following her graduation from the Duke University PA Program in 1993. And she can draw on her broad experiences in advocacy, policy, and leadership work, including achieving significant funding to enhance the faculty pipeline, diversity, and the standard of PA education in her home state of Maryland.

“I am honored and humbled to have been chosen by my peers for the role of CEO at PAEA,” said Bondy. “I am grateful to Timi and Sara for their visionary leadership, and I look forward to working collaboratively with many stakeholders to advance the PA profession and the mission of PAEA.”

Bondy will begin her new role on February 3, filling a position vacated when former CEO Timi Agar Barwick retired in June after 27 years with the organization. Sara Fletcher, PhD, will remain as interim CEO until that time, when she will return to her full-time role of vice president and chief learning officer.
