Program Summary:
The Boston University PA program is a 34-month program that offers a unique interprofessional, team-based learning, educational model. Our class sizes are small, allowing for meaningful interactions between faculty and students. Our affiliation with Boston Medical Center provides the opportunity for clinical practice in the largest safety net hospital in New England.
Position Overview:
The Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program is seeking a dedicated PA educator to join our team. This role is offered at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor, commensurate with experience and includes an appointment as Director of Clinical Education.
The Transition Period: To ensure a seamless transition and comprehensive onboarding, the successful candidate will initially serve as the Associate Director of Clinical Education for the first six months. During this period you will work closely with the outgoing Director to master the programâs administrative nuances and prepare for full leadership of the clinical phase.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Clinical leadership: Oversee the administration, modification, implementation and ongoing assessment of the programâs clinical phase.
- Site management: Lead the strategic maintenance and development of high-quality clinical rotation sites.
- Teaching: Serve as co-Course Director for GMS PS 870: PA Professions. Provide instruction in core clinical courses, including Introduction to Clinical Medicine and Clinical Practicum I & II. Contribute to additional teaching areas based on personal expertise and evolving program needs.
- Academic Engagement: Participation in various program and university committees, student advising, and participating in program events is expected. Additional service outside of the university is encouraged.
- Research: Academic scholarship is strongly encouraged and supported by the program by way of protected time and support for attendance at meetings and academic conferences.
The Director of Clinical Education collaborates closely with the Program Director, the Associate Director of Clinical Education and the Clinical Coordinator, as well as other program faculty. Â
FTE: 1.0 with 0.8 for the PA Program and 0.2 clinical time. Salary will be commensurate with experience. This is a twelve-month, full-time non-tenure position.
Experience and Skills:
Successful candidates will hold at least a Masterâs degree and have at least 5 years of clinical experience as a physician assistant. This position requires NCCPA certification and eligibility for licensure in the State of Massachusetts. Two yearsâ experience educating PA or medical students either as a clinical preceptor or as a faculty member is preferred.
