Primary Purpose:

Demonstrates experience in educating students through prior faculty appointment or clinical practice as a Physician Assistant or other healthcare professional. Serves as a primary faculty member who is responsible for and actively participates in the processes of developing, reviewing, and revising, as necessary, the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the Program; selecting applicants for admission to the Program; providing student instruction; evaluating student performance; providing academic counseling to students; ensuring the availability of remedial instruction; designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum; and evaluating the Program.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Teaches graduate Physician Assistant course(s), as assigned.
  2. Selects teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to the students and instructional setting.
  3. Presents ideas clearly.
  4. Creates a climate conducive to learning.
  5. Provides and maintains a reliable schedule of office hours for student advising, tutoring, remediation, and consultation.
  6. Participates in department, college-wide, and university-wide committees and meetings.
  7. Engages in curriculum development related to current and new courses.
  8. Maintains a personal professional development plan, which may include research or other creative activities, to ensure growth and currency within the academic field.
  9. Displays behavior consistent with professional ethics.
  10. Manages subordinates in the classroom or laboratory setting.
  11. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with University policies and applicable laws.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
  2. Ability to effectively present information to students, public groups, or professional organizations in the English language.
  3. Ability to work with appropriate mathematical concepts specific to the discipline.
  4. Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.
  5. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  6. Ability to interpret nonverbal symbolism (e.g., formulas, scientific equations, graphs).
  7. Adaptability and willingness to teach courses and/or perform special duties as assigned.
  8. Participation in state and/or local community service that is a recognized form of career development.
  9. Mentors and/or orients new faculty, as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor requires completion of professional training, which in most disciplines will be a terminal degree (currently a master's degree), and clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Appointment to the rank of Associate Professor normally requires a record of substantial success in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Appointment to the rank of Professor requires a record of distinguished scholarship and outstanding teaching ability, evidenced by recognized professional productivity in the field(s) of specialization.

Required Certifications/Licensures:

Required Education: Master's Degree

Major (if required): Related area of specialization.

Required Experience:

1. Five (5) years of related experience and/or training, including clinical experience.

2. Physician Assistant or related health professional.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Doctoral degree in related area of specialization and five (5) years of experience in healthcare.

2. Current NCCPA certification preferred.

3. Eligible for licensure in the State of Florida, if applicable.
