Position Concept
Physician Assistant faculty are responsible for assisting in the planning, development, and evaluation of the program's didactic curriculum. Principal faculty assist in the accreditation process, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program.
As a faculty member, your primary role will be to provide academic instruction in an engaging learning environment, incorporating innovative teaching methodologies to enhance the learning experience of our students and achieve learning outcomes. Faculty are classified as full-time.
Responsibilities
Program
- Participate in developing, reviewing, and revising the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the program.
- Collaborate with the Program Director and other faculty members to oversee the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the didactic and clinical curriculum in accordance with accreditation standards.
- Provide evaluation and feedback to the program on course materials, current changes in practice, standards of practice, and student achievement of outcomes.
- Review and provide feedback to faculty for all didactic and clinical courses, including syllabi, instructional materials, and methods.
- Participate in recruitment, selection, and admission of applicants to the program.
- Participate in Self-Assessment Committees to provide continuous evaluation of the program and ensure compliance with ARC-PA Standards.
- Participate in program and university committees, and attend related functions.
- Partner with the Director of Clinical Education to ensure a seamless transition from the didactic to clinical phase.
- Provide ongoing analysis of outcome assessments for core didactic and clinical courses to the Program Director.
- Provide input to the annual budget and expenditures.
- Provide administrative support as requested.
- Document actions taken in faculty and committee meetings using the systematic evaluation plan.
- Maintain and uphold program policies and procedures.
- Develop, participate in, and evaluate student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Student
- Participate in academic advisement and counseling of students in accordance with FERPA.
- Prepare student progress reports, enter grades, and maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in graduation and white coat ceremonies.
Teaching
- Provide student instruction and performance evaluation using evidence-based teaching methods and constructive feedback.
- Provide academic counseling and remediation to students as needed.
- Demonstrate mastery of course content and effectiveness in teaching assigned subjects.
- Serve as a course instructor in appropriate areas.
- Ensure instructional supplies and equipment are maintained in optimal condition.
- Maintain current standards of practice in all courses taught.
- Maintain appropriate office hours.
Practice
- Pursue professional growth through workshops, conferences, faculty meetings, professional memberships, and maintaining certifications and licensure.
- Complete continuing medical education required by the state licensing board and national certification commission.
- Attend and participate in continuing education conferences/workshops.
- Participate in state and local PA associations; advocacy and leadership are encouraged.
- Maintain clinical skills through practice and/or scholarly activities.
- Coordinate and/or participate in special projects as required.
Job Skill Requisites
- Adjunct instructors are:
- a) Physicians who are specialty board certified in their area of instruction,
- b) NCCPA-certified PAs, or
- c) Other licensed health care providers qualified in their area of instruction.
- If a physician, must be currently licensed (MD or DO).
- If a physician, must be certified by an ABMS- or AOA-approved specialty board.
- Knowledgeable in the education of Physician Assistant providers, including professional, legislative, and regulatory issues.
- Qualified through academic preparation and/or experience to teach assigned subjects.
- Faculty serving as supervised clinical practice experience preceptors must hold a valid license to practice at the clinical site.
- Minimum of two years of occupational experience.
