Overview: The University of Mount Saint Vincent invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, on-site, principal faculty position in the Physician Assistant Program at the University of Mount Saint Vincent campus in Riverdale, New York. As principal faculty, the position requires the individual to work closely with senior faculty to ensure the educational program meets and exceeds the Accreditation Standards set forth by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant. For clinically practicing PAs, four days within the Physician Assistant Program and the fifth for clinical practice or professional advancement and contribution will be considered.
Responsibilities and Duties: Assist in the maintenance of ARC-PA standards and NYS Office of the Professions requirements, and participate in ARC-PA accreditation report and self-study activities and analysis. Teach, and/or evaluate instruction in core/professional courses as assigned by the Director. Assist in the design, implementation, coordination, and continuous review and update of the curriculum including the didactic course syllabi, instructional materials, and learning objectives. Participate in the PA Program admissions process. Deliver student instruction. Evaluate student performance. Provide academic advisement of students and coordinate remedial instruction. Participate in the Curriculum and Academic Affairs Committee and other program and/or University committees as approved by the Director of the Physician Assistant Program. Participate in student advisement and report on each advisee's academic progress.
Additional duties for this faculty member, in addition to those of the faculty member (with decreased teaching load), include remediation and student success. Additional responsibilities include:
- Design and deliver individualized remediation plans based on student performance data and faculty feedback.
- Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring, skills training, or targeted instruction in areas of academic deficiency.
- Monitor student progress throughout the remediation period and adjust support strategies as needed.
- Collaborate with course faculty to align remediation goals with curriculum standards.
- Maintain detailed records of student engagement, progress, and outcomes for institutional tracking.
- Participate in academic review boards or progression committees when student performance concerns arise.
- Support students in developing academic skills such as test-taking strategies, time management, and self-assessment.
- Refer students to other academic or wellness support services when appropriate.
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to student remediation and academic progression.
- Stay current with best practices in remediation, learning theory, and educational intervention strategies.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong leadership and organizational skills, a keen dedication to detail and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment. Skillful problem-solving capabilities are necessary.
Minimum Qualifications: Two years of clinical experience and Master's degree is preferred. Experience in remediation and student success preferred.
License/Certification Required: Current NCCPA Certification, State of New York PA license or New York State PA license eligible.
