The Physician Assistant (PA) Program at North Carolina A&T State University is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor to teach, research, advise, and perform other responsibilities as delegated by the Program Director. This is a 12-month, non-tenure-track position that reports to the Program Director.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide student-centered teaching and clinical instruction of master ’s-level Physician Assistant (PA) students. Faculty in this role will provide student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, and engage in program assessment and accreditation-related procedures. The ideal candidate will be expected to (i) incorporate modern pedagogical skills in curriculum development, instruction, and/or course coordination in the didactic and/or clinical phase of the program; (ii) it is expected that the faculty member will be effective in the areas of course design, course delivery, and evaluation (iii) supervise and support physician assistant students in independent research projects; (iv) produce an excellent record of scholarly publications (v) provide service to the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, the college and university as well as to appropriate community and professional organizations.

The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences (HCHHS) comprises six departments and the School of Nursing. The HCHHS offers the following undergraduate degree programs: Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Services Management, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology. At the graduate level, HCHHS offers four degree programs: the Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPA), Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Science in Health Psychology, and Ph.D. in Social Work. Three additional doctoral programs are being developed: Doctor of Nurse Practice (DNP), PhD in Applied Psychology, and PhD in Sociology. The HCHHS is also home to the Center of Excellence in Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research (CIHDER), a hub for multidisciplinary research and community engagement efforts to alleviate health inequities. The HCHHS capitalizes on synergies among these departments to develop advanced academic programming, enhance trainee mentoring, and conduct collaborative multidisciplinary research and scholarly activity.

The Department of Physician Assistant Studies is a rapidly growing department, and this position will play a role in preparing for accreditation and admissions and in facilitating growth and development. The North Carolina A&T Physician Assistant program will help to increase accessibility to medical services for the state’s growing population while providing affordable healthcare. The program’s faculty will successfully prepare students to become competent Physician Assistants, contributing quality care to the workforce by delivering foundational knowledge and essential clinical skills. The Department of Physician Assistant Studies is a supportive community of committed faculty and practitioners whose goals are to introduce students to the ideas and concepts relevant to the discipline of medicine and encourage interdisciplinary learning and team-based care.
