This webinar will both prepare the participant to provide appropriate, accessible care for Deaf and hard-of-hearing patients and offer concrete examples for incorporating this content into their curriculum with an emphasis on experiential learning from the presenter’s own practice of delivering a simulated patient encounter using Deaf actors and American Sign Language interpreters.
At the conclusion of this webinar, the participants will:
- Define terms related to deafness and hearing loss
- Explore the origins of American Sign Language and the Deaf Community in the U.S.
- Recognize steps to providing comprehensive, accessible care to Deaf and hard-of-hearing patients
- 4. Identify opportunities to incorporate the above concepts into PA curricula
- Describe experiential learning opportunities for PA students in providing accessible care to Deaf and hard-of-hearing patients.
