It’s easy to fall into the “one size fits all” trap when we build courses and course activities. It’s challenging to design and facilitate course experiences that are equitable and inclusive, and that foster human connection. Different student populations bring different needs to the online environment, may require different approaches to distance education, and may face issues like limited technology access or culturally biased content. Together we will address those issues using learning design principles, such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Design for Learning Equity, along with being mindful of human connections in the course.
In this session, you will:
- Discuss ways to foster equity, connectedness, and inclusion in higher education courses
- Discuss how the Universal Design for Learning guidelines and the Design for Learning Equity framework inform different aspects of online course design—e.g., content presentation, interaction and collaboration, assessment, learner support
- Select one UDL strategy and collaborate in small groups to develop an action plan for implementation
Schedule: Two weekly 90-minute virtual sessions. Before the first session, it is recommended that you identify the most pressing equity issues for students in your courses and any aspects of your courses that you feel do not serve all students.

Before you begin the registration process, please make sure that you have your NCCPA ID number and ZIP code associated with the NCCPA account (if applicable) to successfully complete the registration. If you do not have an NCCPA ID number, you can still register for the workshops, but you won’t be able to claim CME credits.
No, we recommend that you register yourself for the workshop. Some workshops require you to answer questions during the registration process. These questions are intended to provide the facilitator(s) with information to enhance your workshop experience, such as particular learning goals for the workshop. Since the answers to these questions are unique to you, please register yourself so that you can provide the most helpful answers to these questions.
Yes, and there is no additional charge to transfer your registration. Please email us with your name, email and program name, and the name, email, NCCPA ID/ZIP code associated with the NCCPA ID (if applicable) of the person to whom you are transferring your registration.
There is a 10% administrative fee if you cancel your registration before the stated cancellation deadline for the workshop. Cancellation requests received after the deadline will not receive a refund. “No shows” will be charged the full registration amount. Refunds will be processed within two weeks of the workshop date. Please refer to the full cancellation information in our Workshop Policies section.

When you attempt to register, make sure to use the member registration link. It will prompt you to log into the member community. If you do not know your password, you can use the Forgot Password link to set up a new one. After logging in, you should see the form with the correct prices.
Experience and Equipment
The workshop registration fee includes access to the online course materials and participation in live virtual sessions where you will engage with the facilitator(s) and your colleagues. Depending on the workshop, you will participate in a combination of presentations, large group discussions, breakout sessions, and interactive guided activities. To make the most of the interactive virtual sessions, attendees should plan to complete 30-60 minutes of pre-work prior of each weekly session.
Workshop materials will be shared via PAEA’s Digital Learning Hub and you will also have access to a dedicated Professional Learning Community for your workshop group. Click here for more information about the Digital Learning Hub. To access your account, please login or reset your password here.
You will need a desktop or laptop computer with internet access and a headset (or a microphone and speakers) to communicate with the facilitator(s) and your fellow workshop participants. You are also strongly encouraged to use a webcam during the workshop. Please note that it is not recommended to use a tablet or mobile device as this will limit your ability to fully participate.
Participants will use Zoom to join the live virtual workshop sessions. We recommend that you install Zoom on your desktop or laptop computer prior to the workshop. You can test your computer’s connection to Zoom at https://zoom.us/test. If you have any difficulty, please consult with your IT department for assistance setting up your computer.
PAEA encourages all PA faculty and staff to participate in its programs and activities. CME and Attendance
Yes. Event organizers plan to apply for AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Please refer to the workshop descriptions for the specific CME information related to each workshop.
For live virtual workshops, active participation in all originally scheduled sessions of the program is mandatory to receive full CME credits. Active participation in live virtual workshop sessions includes, but is not limited to, completing required pre-work ahead of each session, participating in virtual classroom activities, discussions, and breakout sessions.
Certified PAs who meet the attendance policy requirements and complete the workshop evaluation survey will receive a certificate showing their CME credits after the workshop.
We understand that there may be circumstances that require you to change your plans. If this happens, here’s what you need to know:
- PAEA encourages you to designate a substitute in your place if you cannot attend. Substitutions will be honored at any time up to the start of the workshop. No-shows are not eligible for refunds. To substitute one registrant for another, please email us at workshops@PAEAonline.org.
- Cancellations must be received by email (workshops@PAEAonline.org) by the stated cancellation deadline for the workshop in order to receive a refund (minus a 10% administrative fee). Refunds will be processed within two weeks of the workshop start date.
- No refunds will be issued for any reason for cancellations received after the cancellation deadline.

PAEA reserves the right to cancel any programming or session. In the unlikely event of cancellation of the workshop, PAEA will refund registration fees but is not responsible for any costs, damages, or other expenses of any kind.
Facilitators and speakers are subject to change without notice.
PAEA Workshop attendance is intended for and limited to those directly involved in PA and/or medical education. Vendors and third-party representatives will be prohibited from attending any of the workshops. If a vendor or third-party representative registers for a workshop, PAEA reserves the right to cancel the registration without reimbursement of registration fees.
For virtual workshops, you may choose to participate in the workshop visually or with audio only. If you participate visually, your image will be received by and available to all participants, and you are agreeing that your image may be used at any time, without further notification, in PAEA printed materials, websites, social media, and for other marketing purposes.
This code of conduct outlines the expectations for all attendees and participants, including all members, facilitators, speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, and volunteers. Cooperation is expected from everyone throughout the workshop and at all workshop events, whether or not officially sponsored by PAEA.
PAEA Workshops are offered to a national audience and are intended to provide education, networking, and collaboration in the PA education community. We value the participation of each member of the PA education community and want all attendees to have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. PAEA is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. Accordingly, all attendees are expected to show respect and courtesy to other attendees.
Violations are taken seriously, and event organizers will actively enforce this code.
PAEA expects workshop participants to communicate professionally and constructively, whether in person or virtually, handling dissent or disagreement with courtesy, dignity, and an open mind, being respectful when providing feedback, and being open to alternate points of view. Likewise, PAEA expects that any sharing of information about the organization or any event, attendees, or participants via public communication channels be shared responsibly and in a way that clearly distinguishes individual opinion from fact.
Be kind to others. Do not insult or put down other attendees. Behave professionally. Remember that harassment and sexist, racist, or exclusionary jokes are not appropriate for any PAEA event.
PAEA does not tolerate harassment of workshop participants, facilitators, speakers, or PAEA staff in any form. Harassment includes offensive verbal or written comments and negative behavior, either in real or virtual spaces, including those that are related to or are based upon gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. Harassment also includes display of sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, and unwelcome physical contact or sexual attention. Workshop participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
Sexual language and imagery are not appropriate for any PAEA event venue, including education sessions, workshops, social gatherings, and within social media channels. Sponsors, exhibitors, and speakers may not use sexualized language, images, activities, or other material, or otherwise create a sexualized environment.
Be careful in the words that you choose. Remember that sexist, racist, and other exclusionary jokes can be offensive to those around you. Excessive swearing and offensive jokes are not appropriate for PAEA events.
If a participant engages in behavior that violates this code of conduct, the event organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund.

Reporting Inappropriate Behavior
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a PAEA staff member.
For in-person events, you may also contact venue staff and ask to be put in touch with the PAEA event manager. Event staff will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to help them feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance.
