Moves & Milestones: June 2016
In this edition of Moves & Milestones, we congratulate a new IAMSE board member, celebrate an award winner, recognize a grant recipient, and see an old school get a new name.
Cindy Lord, MHS, PA-C, program director at the Case Western Reserve University PA program, has been appointed to the board of the International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE). She is the first PA to be elected to the IAMSE Board, creating a great opportunity for interprofessional collaboration with a group of medical educators. “I am very honored to be able to work with the dedicated professionals at IAMSE and proud to represent the PA profession,” she said. “It is very exciting to have PA education recognized as a model for other health professions and medical science educators.”
Rochester Institute of Technology’s Heidi Miller, MPH, PA-C, has received a Distinguished Service Award from the Rochester Academy of Medicine. She helped develop the school’s physician assistant BS/MS program in 1993 and is now the director. “I was surprised and honored to win this award from an organization that I deeply respect,” said Miller. “And to have my mentor of 30 years, Dr. Donald Bordley, professor and associate chair of education in the University of Rochester Medical Center Department of Internal Medicine, present the award and write the citation is one of the highlights of my career.”
The Penn State University PA Program, in partnership with Penn State’s College of Medicine, has received a Primary Care Training and Enhancement (PCTE) grant from HRSA for $477,598. PCTE grants are given for work that encourages medical professionals and educators to focus on primary care, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
University of Texas – Pan American has received official approval from ARC-PA to be recognized by their new name, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). Founded in 1927 as Edinburg College, the university went through several name changes prior to its newest incarnation as UTRGV.
