Help Preceptors Catch a Break — A Tax Break
It’s no secret that there is a shortage of high-caliber clinical preceptors, and as the PA profession grows, so does the need for licensed health professionals to serve as preceptors.
Clinical preceptors play a key role in training each new generation of PAs to become competent health care providers. While precepting is often rewarding, it can be time-consuming and typically is unpaid, which can deter some preceptors from taking on more students.
Sample legislation has been developed by AAPA and PAEA to help alleviate this situation. It would make designated preceptors eligible for an income tax reduction — a benefit that could go a long way in boosting the number of available preceptors.
To help implement similar legislation in your state, please contact AAPA’s Constituent Organization and Outreach staff.
