Award Opportunity: Innovating Health Care Education
Applications are now being accepted for the Innovation Award for Health Care Provider Training and Education, which recognizes health professional training programs that are ahead of the curve in providing nutrition, physical activity, and obesity counseling education to their students.
Despite the fact that more than two-thirds of Americans are overweight or have obesity, less than one-fourth of physicians feel they have received adequate training in counseling patients about diet or physical activity level. The Alliance notes that, unfortunately, many of America’s health care professionals are not prepared to deliver effective counseling on maintaining a healthy weight, diet, and physical activity level.
This award, hosted by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and their co-founding partners, the American College of Sports Medicine and the Bipartisan Policy Center, is split into two honors to spotlight the leadership of inventive educational models from all health disciplines and inspire others with examples of what can be achieved. The two categories are:
- Schools or programs offering innovative training for future health care professionals
- Schools or programs offering innovative professional development or graduate training for current health care professionals
Winners will be invited to speak at the Healthy Kitchens, Healthy Lives conference in Napa, California, in February.
