The University of Pittsburgh Department of Physician Assistant (PA) Studies seeks a full-time principal faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor in the non-tenure stream with primary teaching responsibilities in the PA Studies Hybrid Program.
Position Title: Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor
- Serve as a Principal Faculty member of the PA Studies Hybrid Program through the following duties, as assigned by the Program Director:
- Developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the Program
- Selecting applicants for admission to the PA program
- Providing and contributing to student instruction, including but not limited toÂ the basic sciences, and history taking and physical examination
- Evaluating student performance
- Academic counseling of students
- Assuring the availability of remedial instruction
- Designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum
- Evaluating the Program
- Collaborating with staff and faculty of other Programs in the Department of PA Studies
- Perform other duties as discussed and assigned by the Program Director
- Serve as Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor in the Department of PA Studies through the following, additional duties, as assigned by the Department Chair:
- Collaboration and engagement in research and other scholarly activity regarding educational and professional practice
- Communication and advancement of the strategic plan and initiatives of the University, School, and Department, including championing the commitment to Diversity and Inclusion and fostering an environment where all members of the university community can thrive
- Representation of the program on department-, school-, and university-level committees and in community service activities
- Active participation in local, regional, and national PA educational and professional organizations
- Maintenance of applicable professional certification
- Support and participate in professional development opportunities and scholarly activities
- Maintain a collegial learning and working environment for the faculty, staff, students, community partners, and other stakeholders
- Assist in the upholding of current and developing of new Department and Program policies and procedures
Qualifications and Experience:
- Prior teaching, scholarship, and/or research experience at the professional level
- Three years of experience in clinical practice as a Physician Assistant
- Current National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA) certification
- Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies or a related field
- Record of intra- and extramural funding for training and/or research activities
- Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Education, or other Research or Professional Doctoral degree (either existing or in the process)
Rank is commensurate with academic experience and credentials, with the following as a general guide:
- Candidates at the Assistant Professor level should have experience in clinical care and be committed to developing an academic career in teaching and clinical, transitional, or basic science research.
- Candidates at the Associate Professor level should have 6 or more years of experience in clinical care and be able to demonstrate evidence of significant educational or new clinical program development and/or a record of substantial clinical, translational, or basic science research.
- Candidates at the Professor level should have 6 or more years of experience and be able to demonstrate evidence of having exceeded the standards described for candidates at the Associate Professor level, resulting in attainment of superior stature and national/international reputation in the field of learning, knowledge, and/or professional service.
*The University of Pittsburgh PA Studies Hybrid Program has applied for Accreditation - Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). The University of Pittsburgh PA Studies Hybrid Program anticipates matriculating its first class in January 2023, pending achieving Accreditation-Provisional status at the September 2022 ARC-PA meeting. Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the programâs ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding accreditation-provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students.Â In the event that the program does not achieve accreditation all students who have deposited a seat in the program will receive a full refund. The program will not accept the class until which time provisional accreditation has been granted.
