Health Professions Week (HPW) is less than a month away. Here’s an overview of what each day offers and how you can participate. The most important way to get involved is to share this one-of-a-kind event through social media, email, and word of mouth with the high school students, counselors, undergrads, and advisors in your networks.
Thank you for helping us make Health Professions Week a great success.
Monday, November 6: Keynote by Kameron Matthews MD, JD
The HPW kick-off event features an inspiring keynote from Dr. Matthews, who currently serves as the deputy executive director of provider relations and services in the Office of Community Care at the Veterans Health Administration. He also co-directs the Tour for Diversity in Medicine, an initiative seeking to bring premedical enrichment activities to minority high school and undergraduate students across the country.
Tuesday, November 7: Treasure Hunt Tuesday
Students will find out what a career in the health professions is all about by visiting the 21 participating health professions organizations’ websites. By “going for gold” using #HPWGold on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, students will have a chance to win some great prizes such as a GoPro HERO or one of five $1,000 educational scholarships from Sallie Mae!
Wednesday, November 8: Live Virtual Fair
Here is your chance to help mold the next generation of health care practitioners! Volunteer to spend one or two hours in PAEA’s virtual booth chatting live with attendees and answering their questions about the profession. The virtual fair will take place 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. ET. Clinicians, educators, current students, and alumni are encouraged to volunteer, so please share this information with your networks and encourage them to reach out to Danielle Di Silvestro at ddsilvestro@PAEAOnline.org to volunteer.
Thursday, November 9: Community Connect Day
Be the first to teach prospective health professions practitioners the value and importance of interprofessionalism by hosting an on-campus event or activity in your community. If you cannot host an event, be sure to share with your networks the list of Community Connect Day events. Students who share their experience via Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook and tag the posts with #HPW2017 will be entered into a drawing to win great prizes.
Friday, November 10: A Day in the Life
Looking for an opportunity to showcase an exceptional student or share your own story about why you pursued a career as a PA? Take five minutes to video yourself or a colleague and submit it to the Health Professions Week Team. Students are keen to learn more about the rewards and challenges of a career in the health professions and your video could provide the “spark” that decides a student’s career path. The videos will premiere on the HPW YouTube page on November 10.
