What Is Service?

University faculty are typically expected to engage in service activities. There are a number of ways to provide service, but these are usually characterized as service to the university, to the profession, and to the community. Faculty are often expected to serve on program, college and/or university committees and may be encouraged to seek service appointments on state and national committees. Some universities consider patient care a service activity. Other activities may include student advising, collaboration on master’s projects, poster presentations or other projects.
