Competencies for Care: Obesity

June 28, 2017

Earlier this month, the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) released the Provider Competencies for the Prevention and Management of Obesity, developed by a workgroup of more than 24 organizations, including PAEA.

According to the report, more than one-third of US adults have obesity, with care costing as much as $210 billion a year. At the same time, few health professionals and trainees report that they receive training specific to the prevention and management of obesity.

The 10 competencies laid out by the report seek to establish a baseline pool of knowledge that health care providers should have around obesity, and span topics including core knowledge, interprofessional care, and patient interactions.
